Yuanxiao jie today is better known as the Lantern Festival, a festival that celebrates the 15-day lunar calendar and marks the end of Chinese New Year celebrations. Apparently there are many customs associated with this festival and one of them is to turn on lights, make a wish to stop flying in the sky. I do not know if it is held in this way in mainland China, but when I was in Taiwan, which is as famous (if I remember correctly) the wise especially kids. The played a trick on him at night, lamps light all night. When the emperor seems he thought that the whole town burns so satisfied. So every year we celebrate the event.
